Role Purpose:
The Learning and Development Manager is responsible for designing, leading and embedding a structured, high-impact learning and development strategy aligned to the organisation’s business priorities, values and future capability needs.
This role provides strategic direction for learning while remaining hands-on in the design, implementation and continuous improvement of development programmes, frameworks and systems. The Learning and Development Manager will lead the learning agenda across the business, ensuring learning is purposeful, measurable and consistently delivered.
Key Responsibilities:
Learning and Development Strategy
Develop and deliver a clear learning and development strategy aligned to business objectives, people strategy and future capability requirements.
Identify organisational skills gaps and development priorities through data, engagement insights and stakeholder input.
Design learning frameworks that support career progression, role readiness and leadership development.
Ensure learning activity is aligned to organisational values and promotes a consistent leadership and colleague experience.
Programme Design and Delivery
Design and oversee the delivery of core learning programmes, including leadership, management, professional and technical development.
Ensure learning solutions are practical, scalable and fit for a global or multi-jurisdiction environment where applicable.
Oversee mandatory and compliance-related learning to ensure regulatory expectations are met.
Evaluate learning effectiveness and ensure programmes deliver measurable outcomes.
Learning Systems and Infrastructure
Own the learning management system and overall learning infrastructure, ensuring it supports the learning strategy.
Set the structure, governance and standards for learning content, learning pathways and reporting.
Work closely with the Learning and Development Administrator to ensure effective system build, configuration and ongoing management.
Use learning data and insight to inform decision making and continuous improvement.
Stakeholder Management
Partner with senior leaders and managers to understand development needs and shape appropriate learning solutions.
Act as a trusted advisor on learning and capability development.
Support managers in embedding learning into day-to-day performance and development conversations.
Manage relationships with external training providers and consultants where required.
Leadership and Team Oversight
Provide direction, coaching and oversight to the Learning and Development Administrator and any wider learning resource.
Set clear priorities, standards and expectations for learning delivery and administration.
Ensure learning activity is well governed, consistently delivered and professionally managed.
Continuous Improvement and Governance
Monitor learning trends, best practice and innovation to ensure the learning offer remains relevant and effective.
Establish and maintain learning policies, standards and governance frameworks.
Produce learning updates, reporting and insights for senior leadership as required.
Ensure learning activity is inclusive, accessible and aligned to organisational culture
Skills and Experience
Essential
Proven experience in a Learning and Development Manager or Senior L&D role.
Strong experience designing and delivering learning and development strategies and programmes.
Demonstrable experience implementing and owning a learning management system or learning infrastructure.
Ability to translate business needs into structured, practical learning solutions.
Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
Experience using data and insight to measure learning impact.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Desirable
Experience within professional services, financial services or a regulated environment.
Experience designing leadership or management development frameworks.
Familiarity with blended learning approaches and digital learning platforms.
Coaching or facilitation experience.
